Do You Really Need To Do Video Content?
I hope you’re having a great day. I’m here to answer the question, “Do you really need to go live and do videos on social media? Do you really need to do video content on social media?” My short answer is no, you don’t have to. If you’re not using video, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity. I’ll run you through all of the opportunities that you can think about, and then we can talk about how to get started in a couple of ninja tips to get started.
The main areas of video content from top to bottom, you could do some recorded content that gets upload on YouTube. You could record content and put it up on different social media platforms. We call it longer form content. You could do live videos on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube live. You can post videos inside your Stories. You can do a short-form video, which is TikTok Reels and YouTube Shorts. All of these are great opportunities. Each one gives you the option to reach your perspective customer partner in a slightly different way.
I want to encourage you to start to think about using these tools. I want you to stop taking yourself so seriously. Have some fun with it. You’ll get better as you go. I talked about consistency. I guarantee you guys, if you committed to starting to do video content and you did it consistently, you will get better. Probably the scariest one to do is live video. I personally love live video. I’m going to give you some of my favorite ninja tips for live video. I love live video because you can hop on with a friend and interview each other. That’s a great idea.
The least scary is inside your stories. The nice thing about doing a video inside your stories is those go away after 24 hours, so that’s a perfect time to press the record button and pop inside your stories and talk to the people that are on the other side. Every day, I try to get into my stories and talk a little bit about what’s on my mind. I talk sometimes about my products that are on sale. I give a little health tip. I give a mindset tip. I just pop in there. I’ll tell you what I love about live inside stories. It’s when people comment back to your story, you’re in the DMs, and you’ve heard me talk about this.
You want to get into conversations with people. That’s what you really want to do. Anything that gets you into fun conversations inside the DMs is a good opportunity. Videos inside your stories, I really love. Let’s talk about short-form video real quick, and then we’ll go back and talk about lives because I feel like lives are an amazing opportunity and so are short-form videos.
Anything that gets you into fun conversations inside the DMs is an excellent opportunity.
If you want to start to try short-form videos, and I might do a session on reels and give some ninja tips on reels. It’s hard to do on a podcast, but I’ll do my best. Here’s what I want you to think about as you think about doing TikTok in reels. There are a lot of different ways to present information. You don’t have to be a dancer, you don’t have to be funny, you don’t have to be a great lip-syncer, and you can still be super impactful on those video forms.
What I would do is start with what you’re most comfortable with. If you haven’t done the work on building your own personal brand and your content pillars, go back and do that. It’s all inside here. Once you’ve got those down, it becomes a lot easier to figure out what you want to talk about on short-form video. I think the hardest thing to do is to wander onto reels or TikTok and think you have to be those people.
Often also, a lot of the videos that perform best are done by professional dancers, done by people with professional editing skills. That doesn’t mean that yours won’t be highly impactful. I’m going to encourage you to start where you are. It’s always my instructions. Start authentically where you are. You can absolutely do it. I will tell you, just in terms of social media content, the number one content that is being pushed out on Instagram right now is reels because Instagram is competing with TikTok, and they want those eyeballs. It’s also fun to watch short video. The best performing videos are between 7 and 15 seconds. It isn’t as if you have to create something that long and impactful.
The final thing I want to talk to you guys about is Real Lives, and I have live videos. I have this course that I do with my business partner, Lisa, called Real Lives. You can grab it. It’s super affordable. It teaches you all of the things that you want to know about doing lives like good lighting, correct camera angle, how to open up the conversation, things to do and not to do on videos. I’m going to give you a couple of ideas right now, and then we’re going to wrap this baby up for today.
The easiest way to do a live video is to do it with a buddy. I’m going to encourage you and give you a little challenge to grab a friend, and go on and pick a topic and talk to each other about it. Go on and have a conversation. Just get started there. Then I want you to start to think about how can you deliver some interesting information in less than ten minutes about things that you know and love that are related to your content pillars.
I want you to go ahead and write out the key points. Here’s how you set it up. You guys have heard me do content talking about hooks. You’re going to open with a hook, you’re going to give a couple of key pieces of information. You’re going to wrap it up and give them a call to action to reach out to you for more information. The biggest mistakes I see is people get onto a live, and let me know if this drives you crazy, it drives me bananas. Someone gets on a live and they wait for more people to show up before they get started.
I’ve bothered to stop what I’m doing to watch them on live. Now they’re telling me that they need to wait until more people show up as if I’m not enough. When you start a live video, just go. People will jump on when they get on. They can go back and watch it from the beginning later. Even if no one’s on yet, just go.
Let’s just wrap it up. Video is the number one way for people to get to know, like, and trust you. As we are talking about personal branding, you are the brand. I’m going to strongly encourage you to start to think about ways you can start showing your face and using your voice together in video on social media. The easiest way to start this is inside your stories, so go ahead and get started inside your stories.
The next place to explore is starting to think about reels. I’m going to encourage you to do this. If you are reading this, you’re somebody that’s taking your marketing seriously. Start to think about it. I also offer this. I have done a free reels workshop. The final thing is Real Lives, which is a course that we do on live video training that you can take advantage of.
Just think about going live and practicing. Invite a friend, go on with a buddy. Start to talk about things that you’re passionate about. If you are partnered with a brand, go live and start to talk about some of your favorite products. If you’ve learned something new this week, go live and share what you learned this week. Start to connect authentically with the people on the other side. The most powerful way to do that is through video.
I hope this was helpful. If you’re enjoying this content, please hop on and drop a review. I really appreciate it. I appreciate you guys so much. I appreciate the messages that you leave me over on Instagram. It means the world to me. Thank you for all of that. I love you, guys. I will talk to you soon. Bye.
