I often say, “you already have a personal brand. The only question is – is it happening by default or design”
How you show up on social media matters, including your commitment to showing up consistently. Showing up regularly and congruently leads to success, builds trust among your followers, and strengthens your own skills and competence.

The Power of Consistency
I often say, “you already have a personal brand. The only question is – is it happening by default or design” How you show up on social media matters, including your commitment to showing up consistently. Showing up regularly and congruently…
We are going to dig in a little bit about consistency. I was on a big Zoom call with the leader of my team, an amazing mentor. We are building out some social media content for our organization. As someone who has a background in marketing, I have been able to play a big role in helping create this content for the team, which I love doing. I love being able to serve at that level to the wider organization.
I was asked to talk to the team about how to use the content and what it’s for. As I started to dig into my notes, it all came down to one thing. This is what I want to talk to you about it comes down helping our team with content allows them to be more consistent. Our topic is consistency and how powerful consistency is, and it’s one of those habits that doesn’t show up right away.
Consistency only shows up over time, and so often we give up before the compound effect of consistency starts to show up. What I have noticed in my career is the number one thing that has helped me have so much success is that I show up regularly and congruently. It has built trust amongst my followers and friends, and it is what has built the trust and the confidence. I’m going to give you a bunch of Cs.
The first thing I’m going to tell you is consistency compounds. It is one of those things. My friend, Lisa, who’s a colleague of mine, always says people are watching, and we underestimate how much people are watching. Oftentimes when it comes to our business, especially if you are starting up something new, people will sit and watch you to see if you are going to stay consistent with what you are doing.
I notice this when I coach people on their brands all the time. If you are inconsistent with the kinds of messages that you deliver and if you are inconsistent with how often you show up on social media. You disappear for a few weeks and you pop back on. You disappear again and you pop back on. You are building a reputation as somebody who’s inconsistent. If you show up super negatively all the time on social media, you are building a reputation of someone who shows up consistently very negatively. Whatever you are doing regularly builds upon itself.
Whatever you are doing regularly builds upon itself.
If you decided to commit to being consistent and on brand and authentic regularly. I’m not even going to say every day. I’m going to say consistently. That will build over time. Hands down, no question, consistency compounds. The other thing that consistency does is it builds confidence. You see all my Cs and all my Cs, consistency builds confidence. It builds it in two ways.
First and foremost, it builds your confidence. The only way you get better at anything is to do it more. There is no shortcut to mastering a skill than doing it more consistently. If you want to get better at social media, if you want to get better at videos, which we are going to talk about in our next episode. If you want to get better, if you want to be more authentic, if you want to create deeper and more conversations, you have to do it more consistently.
It builds it in you in your own skills because you are doing them more regularly. It also builds confidence in the person that’s on the other side watching. We are building a brand whether we want to or not. Your activity is making an impression whether you want it to or not. Not showing up is having an equal effect then showing up. If you keep showing up, people will build their confidence in you because they see you showing up and doing the work.
The next one is it helps build the opportunity for authentic connections. Showing up consistently. Social selling is a business of conversations. It’s a business of authentic connections. The more consistent you are on showing up, the more opportunities there will be for those conversations. You want to look for connections and conversations.
I will say this on a side note that oftentimes what I see from social sellers is they will post regularly, but they are not doing the second piece, which is looking for ways to get into authentic conversations and build real connections. I call it the post and prey strategy where people spend a lot of time on their posts, but then they are not in the back end asking good questions and getting into good conversations.
Let me recap. Consistency is the name of the game. Consistency compounds. It will build upon itself over time. Guaranteed you keep going, it will continue to build. The key is to focus on the right activities, the right mindset and dig in and be consistent. Consistency builds confidence for you and for the other person because you are both seeing that you show up and you mean what you say and you say what you do, and then finally, consistency creates more opportunities for connections and conversations. Whoever has the most conversations wins. Through our marketing efforts, we are looking for our people that want what we have. That’s why we are out there every day showing up consistently over time.
The last thing that I’m going to say with consistency is it builds a real sense of congruence. My last C is congruence. It’s one of my favorite words. It builds congruence in yourself that you are doing what you said you would do. Oftentimes we let ourselves down because we are not matching up our actions to what we say we want. I always say this to my team. It’s an if then equation. If you want to do this, then you do this.
You match up your activity to your goals, and the number one commitment to your activities is showing up consistently. I hope this was helpful. I love you, guys. Tag me on your consistent posts. I’d love to see them. If you’ve got a quote about consistency, please tag me in the post. I’d love to see it. If you have a moment, I’d love to ask you to go to anywhere you are reading this show and drop a review. I’d appreciate a review, and I appreciate you reading so much. Have an amazing day. I will be back next in the episode. We’ll talk some more soon. Take care, everybody.
